Black U.S. Colleges

Which were the first two historically black colleges?
Since 1837

That includes Lincoln University of Pennsylvania in 1854, the first HBCU granting college degrees, the Wilberforce University in 1856, the first college run by African Americans, and Harris-Stowe State University in 1857, which focused on teaching and education courses.

How do black and white schools differ?

From their inception, schools serving students of color received significantly less funding than schools serving white students and faced overcrowding, inadequate supplies, and insufficiently paid teachers. Such disparities resulted in gaps in the educational opportunities available to Black and white communities.

From my own research, I have found that most Black people, educated in the White educational system, have to provide the missing factors regarding American history. That said, I messaged my son, who seeks a history degree to teach at the high school level, telling him that an undergrad or graduate degree from a Black college might afford him the actual American historical content vs what he would learn in a White educational system.

Lastly, I just read an article, published in 2017, that stated in context; that Black American history, is a subset of the regular history. A "subset"? Listen carefully, Black American history should be integrated into every history class. Actual and authentic history, regarding the Black population is neither a subset nor an elective. It's history as it unfolded, period!
